How to Keep Your Bathing Suit Looking Great

Bathing suits do not always get the care they deserve. We swim in them exposing the fabrics to harsh chemicals, we sun bathe in the suits fading them from the rays, and we usually throw them about after we take them off. All of these actions mean that a bathing suit will not last long. And if you have paid a decent amount of money for your suit, you need it to last.

Some of the biggest enemies of the bathing suit are the sun, chlorine, sun tan lotion and the wearer. We seem to get very lazy with our bathing suits even when we look after our other lingerie. For instance, most people wrap their suit in a towel after removing and then the suit gets mildew. If you have to carry your suit wet, it would be better to place it in a mesh lingerie bag so that the material can breathe. But, before placing the suit in the bag, rinse it out with cool, clean water.bikini

Further, when applying sun tan lotion, you should cover your body and let it dry before putting the suit on. And if you are at the beach applying the lotion, try not to cover the fabric of the suit.

Dryers are a “no-no” for bathing suits. The temperature is far too hot and will ruin the elastic in the bands and cause the suit to shrink. Hang all bathing suits to dry as they do dry quite quickly. If hanging outdoors, try to hang in the shade and not the direct sunlight.

Always read the care labels on the suit. Especially if you have purchased a suit made of silk or some other expensive fabric. You want to make sure that the colours do not bleed and that you followed the manufacturers washing instructions. And do not cut the labels from your suit. You will invariably nick the fabric causing yourself much grief.

So enjoy the summer and look after yourself and your beautiful swimwear!
